Ujijji Davis Williams

Ujijji Davis Williams is a practicing landscape architect, urban planner and researcher based in Detroit. She is the Founding Partner of JIMA Studio. Prior to JIMA, Ujijji served as Associate at SmithGroup, leading critical landscape and urban design work, including neighborhood planning, greenways and streetscapes in post-industrial cities across the country.

Shandra’s experience in architecture is coupled with her background in social movements. Shandra worked a decade as a labor and community organizer in Philadelphia, Atlanta and Oakland, engaging diverse communities around housing and labor issues. As a Design Associate, she hopes to build on her organizing experience by supporting community driven and public interest initiatives. She holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Movements from Swarthmore College.


Michelle's passion for parks and play is evidenced in her experience in design and construction. She integrates play and environmentalism in her work as a way to develop resilience playscapes that fold in education and habitat support. As a Design Associate, she hopes to build on her experience to provide important strategies for clients at their own sustainability crossroads. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Architecture and Urbanism from the University of Sao Paulo.


Stephanie has over 7 years of experience leading and managing urban planning, urban design and site projects in Southeast Michigan. She was recently awarded Emerging Professional of the Year by National ASLA for her design and advocacy work in the field. As a Design Associate, she hopes to build on her experience to provide important strategies for clients looking to evoke meaningful change in their communities. She holds a Master of Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University.
